Decoupage  is a technique for cutting out a motive, glue it on to a surface and seal it with decoupage lacquer. It's possible to buy equipment calculatefor this process. This will make nice Christmas gifts, which are fun to make. Just be aware - it's easy to be stuck with this hobby for the whole year!    

You'll need an item to decorate. There's a lot of items to be bought in a "Do-it-yourself"-shop, but a small box, a picture frame, a tray, a glass etc. etc. is just as fine. Just use your imagination!

It's nice to use paper napkins - you'll find all kinds of patterns. Just - REMEBER - it's just the upper sheet of the paper napkin that skall be used. Remove the under layers.

With the decopage technique you may transfer the patterns to almost any types of foundation. I have bought some small carton boxes and fill them with some Christmas goodies, after they are decorated.       

The "Do-it-yourself" shops offer a special glue, which is both glue and lacquer.  (Decoupage laquer), and it's different kinds to different foundations.  You may also find  transparent  lacquer and laquer containing silver- or gold glitter. You may sprinkle glitter on ordinary laquer, but then you should have a very steady hand to get it right.

If you're not able to get hold of Decoupage lacquer, it's quite possible to use wallpaper paste, both on wood and paper. It's important to lacq properly for the items to stay in a good condition.

Use the brush you have at hand. Remeber to wash thoroughly in lukewarm water after use. It's also poissible to use foamed rubber or a small bit of a sponge to add the glue. 

When you have cut the motive, measure before adding glue, to be certain that it will become as you thoght.
