Psalms for Easter |
|
||
| HE IS RISEN ......... | Words ; Cecil Frances Humphreys Alexander | ||
| 1. | |||
| Said the angel, "He is risen !" | |||
| Tell it out with joyful voice. | |||
| He has burst His three days' prison ; | |||
| Let the whole wide earth rejoice. | 2. | ||
| Death is conquered, we are free, | Come, ye sad and fearful hearted, | ||
| Christ has won the victory. | With glad smile and radiant brow ! | ||
| Death's long shadows have departed, | |||
| All our woes are over now. | |||
| 3. | Due to passion that He bore -- | ||
| Come, with high and holy hymning, | Sin and pain can vex no more. | ||
| Chant our Lord's triumphant day ; | |||
| Not one darksome cloud is dimming | |||
| Yonder glorious morning ray, | |||
| Breaking over the purple east : | 4. | ||
| Brighter far our Easter feast. | He is risen, He is risen ! | ||
| He has opened heaven's gate. | |||
| We are free from sin's dark prison, | |||
| Risen to a holier state; | |||
| 5. | And a brighter Easter beam | ||
| Hallelujah ! Hallelujah ! | On our longing eyes shall stream | ||
| Heart and voice to heaven raise, | |||
| Sing to God a hymn of gladness, | |||
| Sing to God a hymn of praise. | |||
| He who on the cross a ransom | |||
| For the world's salvation bled, | 6. | ||
| Jesus Christ the King of glory | Christ is risen, Christ is firstfruits | ||
| Now is risen from the dead. | Of the holy harvest field. | ||
| Which will all its full abundance, | |||
| At his glorious advent, yield ; | |||
| Then the golden ears of harvest | |||
| 7. | Will before His presence wave. | ||
| Hallelujah ! Hallelujah ! | Rising in His sunshine joyous | ||
| Glory be to God above ! | From the furrow of the grave | ||
| Hallelujah, to the Saviour, | |||
| Fount of life and source of love ; | |||
| Hallelujah, to the Spirit | |||
| Let our high ascriptions be; | |||
| Hallelujah, now and ever, | |||
| To the blessèd Trinity. | |||
|
|||
| THINE IS THE GLORY... | |||
(The music for this psalm can be heard on the Norwegian page - "Salmer og sanger") |
|||
| Thine is the glory, risen, conqu'ring Son ; | |||
| Endless is the victory, Thou o'er death hast won. | |||
| Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away, | |||
| Kept the folded grace clothes where Thy body lay. | |||
| Refrain ; | |||
| Thine is the glory, risen conqu'ring Son, | |||
| Endless is the vict'ry, Thou o'er death hast won | |||
| Lo ! Jesus met us, risen from the tomb ; | |||
| Lovingly He greets us, scatters fear and gloom ; | |||
| Let the church with gladness, hymns of triumph sing | |||
| For her Lord now lliveth, death hath lost its sting | |||
| Refrain ....... | |||
| No more we doubt Thee, glorious Prince of life ; | |||
| Lifte is naught without Thee ; aid us in our strife | |||
| Make us more than conqu'rors, through Thy deathless love | |||
| Bring us safe through Jordan to Thy home above. | |||
| Refrain ....... | |||
